Big cities never sleep, and the biggest city in Canada is no exception. Even on Christmas Day, when many have the day off to spend time at home with family, there is no shortage of things to do out and about. Check out our suggestions below for 3 things to do on Christmas Day in Toronto:

Ice skate at Nathan Phillips Square

The outdoor ice skating rink at Nathan Phillips Square is open throughout the holidays, including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day! Rink hours are 10 am to 10 pm, weather permitting. There’s nothing more festive than lacing up a pair of skates and cruising around the rink with friends or family under a backdrop of glittering lights and an impressive holiday tree. Skating is free and skates and helmets are available for rent. Nathan Phillips Square is located at the foot of Toronto City Hall, just a 20 minute walk from Ramada Plaza Downtown Toronto.

See the Christmas flower show at Allan Gardens

Located right across the street from Ramada Plaza Downtown, Allan Gardens is a historic Toronto landmark with an impressive array flora and foliage throughout its grounds and inside its picturesque Conservatory. Every Christmas the Conservatory features a holiday flower show, with over 30 varieties of poinsettia and other wintery floral masterpieces. The Conservatory is open every day from December 3 to January 7 from 10 am to 5 pm, including Christmas Day. Entry is free!

Visit the aquarium

The fish don’t sleep in on Christmas Day! Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, just a 15 minute drive or 20 minute transit ride away from our hotel, is open from 9 am to 11 pm on Christmas Day. Visit with the sharks, jellyfish, or bright colourful fish throughout the aquarium’s many permanent galleries and feature exhibits. Tickets start at $9 for kids under 5 and range up to $35 for adults.

There’s plenty to do on Christmas Day if you’ll be visiting Toronto for the holidays! Our convenient location means you can get all around town easily and roam the usually-bustling streets on Christmas Day.
